seneca county facility
general info

Beautiful Seneca County is in the heart of the Fingerlakes region with Cayuga lake to the East and Seneca Lake on its west. This county is blessed with both cottage living on the lake and ample farmland between the lakes. Next to the popularity of the lakes, this region is probably most well known as, “the wine country of New York State.” So with all that taken into account, Seneca county sees both the very wealthy, the poor, the frequent traveler, and the stay at home farmer; The appreciators of wine and refined living, as well as the party or celebration lifestyle associated with outdoor living in such a beautiful place.
But this county also has a hidden honor, it is a place of confinement, growth, and recovery to many who came here not by choice. In addition to its own local jail, Seneca County also has two state run facilities in her borders; Five Points Correctional Facility and Willard Drug Treatment Facility for the incarcerated community. This of course implies that many of Seneca County’s residents are employed as local law enforcement, Correctional Officers, or support staff to these facilities.
Taking all of these dynamics into consideration, Chaplain Jesse Barrett of Golden Key Prison Ministry strives to be an encouragement to the entire community associated with incarceration. As he pastors his local church at First Baptist Church of Interlaken, he takes into account that he will be ministering to: Officers working for the state, men and women struggling with addictions, and family members of those who have loved ones lost in a cycle of incarceration. The gospel is preached with the hope that souls will find the Lord, grow in their faith, and be challenged to love their neighbor as themselves as they arrest, secure, evangelize, or comfort their community in a county full of closed churches.
Additionally, Chaplain Jesse is a partner with the local prison ministry already established in the area. He helps to find volunteers who are willing to help minister to the incarcerated inside and outside of these facilities. He also works with other local churches who call on him to visit a loved one inside, or to help minister to a family struggling with consequences associated with incarceration. Most importantly, he informs churches of the needs of the incarcerated community and asks for prayers on their behalf.
